The first movable solar collector entirely manufactured in Bulgaria - "Focus 42"

"Focus 42" is NOT a vacuum pipe tube or flat collector

In the “Focus-42” collector there has been used the principle of the parabolic reflecting surface which is known from technical literature. The whole incoming solar energy is focused by the built-in reflectors on four pipes with small absorption area – which is a precondition for insignificant losses from reverse emission.

The direct contact of the liquid which is the heat carrier in the tubes with the absorption surface provides the quick transmission of the heat and the minimal heating of the reflectors and the collector itself. The high efficiency is achieved without using expensive or dangerous materials for special coating. The pipe system to the water heater is executed in a similar way as the home central heating.

The “Focus-42” solar collector is attached to a metal stand, supplied with an electric motor which is connected by means of flexible connections to the pipe system. A small microprocessor module supplied with a lit LCD is responsible for the accurate orientation of the collector from 9.30 in the morning to 7.00 p.m. and automatically performs the movement during the day and the return of the collector to the position for sunrise. The module continuously measures the input and the output temperature of the heat carrier in the pipes and protects the collector from overheating by performing a rotation (self-shading) of the panel until it cools down and afterwards automatically positions it perpendicularly to the sunbeams. Thus the danger of exceeding the pressure in the pipes is avoided. Critical temperatures which can destruct the antifreeze and cause corrosion to the pipes and the pump are not achieved. The complex drainage components and cooling system are not necessary anymore. An expensive expansion vessel is not necessary either.

The constant change of the tilting angle during operation prevents the detention of snow, leaves and other pollution on the double layer transparent cover of the collector. The upper elastic layer provides protection against hailstones, whereas the lower layer increases the thermal insulation.

The multi module “Focus-42” system is controlled by a main electronic module which  controls the pump, according to the output temperature of all panels and the temperature of the water heater . The main module controls the electric heaters of the water heater, so that energy is not consumed from the mains when from the collectors is obtained enough heating of the water. If the water heater is not heated after a cloudy day, the heaters will switch on during the night rate until the adjusted temperature is achieved.

The main module tracks the mains voltage and charges the integral battery which powers the operation of the panels when there is no mains supply. On a lit display it constantly provides information about the temperatures and the movement of the panels, the pump and the voltage of the battery. Computer interface is provided for additional monitoring and data recording. After installation and setting the clock of the main module according to the summer clock time, the system does not need additional servicing and re-setting for the winter period.


The “Focus-42” project has been realized by a team of engineers and specialists from different fields who united their efforts in the creation of a solar collector with qualities different from those of the models offered on the market. After a number of experiments, improvements and tests of the system, operations in real conditions during all seasons, there has constantly been recorded data about the capacity of this new product.
